The Best AI Product Recommendation Apps for Small Shopify Stores, Scored

We compared the pricing pages, plan gates, and Shopify App Store listings for the five biggest AI personalization apps a small store actually shops. One is the obvious pick under 500 orders a month.

The Verdict

Wiser is the one to beat if you're a small Shopify store doing under 500 orders a month. Real free tier up to 50 orders, paid plans starting at $9/month, and cart and post-purchase upsells baked into the tiers small stores actually sit on. Rebuy is the better pick once you're a mid-market DTC brand that'll actually run Smart Cart, bundles, and A/B tests, but $534/month for Platform One is overkill if your baseline is 200 orders. LimeSpot Turbo is the honest budget alternative at $6.99/month for stores that don't need audience segmentation. Skip Glood unless you're okay babysitting a widget-display meter, and think twice before letting Nosto's usage-based bills anywhere near a store that isn't ready for them.

Every Shopify roundup calls itself a test, but almost none of them price the app the way a small store would actually pay for it. That matters here more than in any other category, because AI personalization apps price on order volume, store revenue, widget displays, or a percentage of "attributed" revenue, and the plan gate that hides cart or post-purchase upsells behind a $99 tier can quietly cost you more than the AI is worth.

So we did the boring, useful thing. We opened every pricing page and Shopify App Store listing, mapped what a store doing roughly 200 orders a month would pay on each tier, and read what each tier actually unlocks. We're a review site, not a Shopify agency, so this is a documentation and pricing comparison, not a live A/B test on your storefront. Treat the scores as a shopping guide for the plan a small store would actually buy, not a claim about which recommender lifts AOV more on your specific catalog.

How We Tested

5 measured metrics

A documentation and pricing-page comparison for a small Shopify store doing roughly 200 orders per month. We scored five metrics (pricing transparency, small-store fit at the free/entry tier, feature coverage across product page, cart, checkout, and post-purchase, plan-gate honesty for what's hidden behind higher tiers, and Shopify integration depth) and combined them into the single number on the badge. We didn't run a live conversion test on any store.

Pricing Transparency

We opened each app's own pricing page and Shopify App Store listing and graded how clearly a small-store buyer can predict their monthly bill before installing. Flat published tiers scored highest; revenue-share, GMV-based, or 'contact sales' pricing scored lowest. We only credited numbers the vendor's own page states.

Small-Store Fit

For each app we identified the plan a Shopify store doing about 200 orders per month would sit on, using the vendor's own published tier table, and read what that plan costs and includes. A generous free tier that covered the core recommendation widgets scored highest; a tier that forces you onto a $500+ base to unlock the actual AI scored lowest.

Feature Coverage

We inventoried each app's docs and App Store listing for coverage across the four touchpoints that matter on a small store: product page recommendations, cart drawer upsells, checkout upsells, and post-purchase offers. We also noted bundles, frequently-bought-together, and A/B testing. Depth was scored on the plan a small store would actually buy, not the enterprise plan.

Plan-Gate Honesty

We mapped which core features are gated behind higher tiers on each app. Apps that keep cart and post-purchase upsells inside the entry paid plan scored highest; apps that gate them behind $99+ or revenue-share plans scored lowest. This is where a lot of the real cost hides.

Shopify Integration Depth

We checked each app's Shopify App Store listing, official docs, and integration pages for native Shopify support (theme app blocks, checkout extensibility, native cart drawer, ESP hooks like Klaviyo). Shopify-exclusive apps with deep native surface scored higher than cross-platform tools that treat Shopify as one integration among many.

Rank1
Wiser AI
Expert Village Media Technologies
The rare AI recommendation app that respects a small store's budget without gating away the features that actually move the needle.
91

Wiser is a Shopify-native product recommendation and upsell app with a free plan for stores doing under 50 orders a month, then $9/month up to 100 orders, $19/month for 101-300 orders, and $49/month for 301-500 orders. It covers the four touchpoints small stores actually need (product page recommendations, cart drawer upsells, checkout upsells, and post-purchase offers) plus frequently-bought-together bundles, A/B testing, and analytics. The catch is that it's still an AI recommender, and at very low order volumes the AI won't have enough behavioral data to blow past a well-configured manual widget. You're really paying for the workflow, the widgets, and the support team, not a magic conversion lift.

Pros

  • Genuinely free up to 50 monthly orders, no credit card required
  • Paid plans start at $9/month and are gated by store orders, not attributed revenue
  • Frequently bought together, cart drawer, checkout, and post-purchase upsells on the same plan
  • 5,000+ Shopify merchants and a 14-day free trial on paid plans

Cons

  • Independent alternatives argue AI-driven lift over manual widgets is modest at low order volumes
  • Not the app to pick if you also want a full CDP, quiz funnel, or loyalty program
  • At higher tiers the price climbs quickly; check the ladder before you scale

Rebuy Personalization Engine
Rebuy
The most complete Shopify personalization platform on the market, priced accordingly, and worth it only once you're actually mid-market.
86

Rebuy is a Shopify-exclusive personalization platform built around Smart Cart, merchandising widgets, dynamic bundles, checkout and post-purchase upsells, and A/B testing, with deep integrations into Klaviyo, Recharge, Yotpo, and Okendo. Pricing is package-based and scales with orders per month: individual packages start at $25/month each, and Platform One (every package bundled with premium support) is a $534/month base with a positive-ROI guarantee tied to Rebuy-generated revenue. It's the gold standard once you're a real DTC brand (Smart Cart in particular is what everyone else copies) but it's not the app to buy on day one at 200 orders a month, because the sticker price will outrun what the AI can attribute back.

Pros

  • The most complete personalization surface on Shopify, product page through post-purchase
  • Smart Cart is genuinely a category leader and hard to replicate with cheaper tools
  • Positive-ROI guarantee is written into the plan, with refund terms published on the pricing page
  • Deep native integrations with Klaviyo, Recharge, Yotpo, and other Shopify ecosystem apps

Cons

  • Platform One base of $534/month is a heavy commitment for stores under a few hundred orders
  • Package-based bill scales with orders per month; you have to model your growth curve
  • Some App Store reviews flag billing disputes and slow support responses at peak times

LimeSpot
LimeSpot
The honest budget pick if you just want product recommendations across every page and don't need audience segmentation.
82

LimeSpot ships two products a small store cares about. LimeSpot Turbo is a flat-rate plan that starts at $9.99/month with tiers based on monthly order count (up to 250 orders is $19.99/month), covering unlimited recommendations on all pages, bundles, cross-sells, checkout extensions, and post-purchase offers. LimeSpot Max is a revenue-based plan starting at $50/month that adds audience segmentation, A/B/n testing, email and SMS personalization, and 70+ integrations. Turbo isn't available on Shopify Plus. It's a reasonable second choice to Wiser if you want a personalization surface across every page for under $20, though App Store reviews are polarized: the happy stores rave about the results and the support team, the unhappy ones complain about opaque revenue-share billing on the older Max/Pay-as-You-Grow plans.

Source: LimeSpot ↗

Pros

  • Turbo starts at $9.99/month with a 15-day free trial and no overage fees inside the tier
  • Covers product page, cart, checkout extension, and post-purchase in one app
  • Manual and automatic upsell/cross-sell in the same widget
  • Native Shopify theme editor customization, no code required

Cons

  • LimeSpot Turbo isn't compatible with Shopify Plus
  • Audience segmentation and A/B testing are locked to the higher-priced Max plan
  • Revenue-based billing on the older Max plans has drawn App Store complaints

Glood Product Recommendations
Glood.AI
A capable widget engine that scores itself in the foot with a per-1,000-display overage meter.
75

Glood is a Shopify AI recommendation app with a visual builder and native Shopify theme integration. The free tier covers the basics (recently-viewed, trending, and bestseller widgets) and paid plans layer on AI personalization, bundles, rule-based recommendations, and A/B testing. What holds it back for a small store is the pricing model: above 10,000 widget displays a month you can be charged $1 per additional 1,000 displays, tapering to $1 per 2,000 at higher tiers. That means your bill scales with impressions, not revenue, and a spike in traffic can quietly spike your invoice. Setup is fast and reviewers consistently praise the support team. Just watch the displays meter.

Source: Glood.AI ↗

Pros

  • Free tier covers recently-viewed, trending, and bestseller widgets with unlimited usage
  • Visual builder for widget placement and customization
  • Native Shopify theme integration with dedicated setup support
  • 4.7 stars across 125 App Store reviews, with well-regarded support

Cons

  • Widget-display overage charges above 10,000/mo add unpredictability to your bill
  • Feature complexity can overwhelm merchants who wanted a simple plug-and-play widget
  • Smaller App Store review base than LimeSpot or Wiser at the same category level

Nosto
Nosto
Enterprise-grade personalization with an enterprise-grade bill. A hard no for a small store, and honestly listed here to warn you off.
70

Nosto is a well-known ecommerce personalization platform that runs on top of Shopify, offering an integrated suite of AI-powered product recommendations, on-site search, and category merchandising built around predictive AI and real-time behavioral data. Pricing isn't published on the Nosto site, so a small store has no way to predict its bill before talking to sales. For a store doing 200 orders a month, that alone is the whole story. Nosto is a real product, but you shouldn't be buying it: the same recommendations job on a small Shopify store gets solved for a tenth of the cost by Wiser or LimeSpot Turbo.

Source: Nosto ↗

Pros

  • Integrated suite of product recommendations, personalized search, and category merchandising
  • Predictive AI trained on real-time behavioral data
  • Steep learning curve pays off for teams with a dedicated merchandiser
  • Track record with 1,500+ mid-market and enterprise DTC brands

Cons

  • No public pricing on the Nosto site; every quote goes through sales
  • Positioned for enterprise buyers, with implementation and services typically billed separately
  • Attribution methodology is opaque unless you negotiate reporting terms up front

Best for  Mid-market and enterprise brands with an in-house CRO team and the budget for a custom-quoted personalization platform.

A note on how we ranked these, because the order surprised us a little.

Going in, we expected Rebuy to win. It’s the platform every mid-market Shopify roundup names first, Smart Cart is genuinely a category-leading product, and the positive-ROI guarantee written into the pricing page is unusually honest for the category. But once we stopped pretending to be a $10M DTC brand and started pricing these apps the way a store doing 200 orders a month would actually pay for them, the order rearranged itself. Rebuy’s Platform One is $534/month before you’ve earned a dollar back. Its $25 package tier is cheap, but you need three or four of them running to look like the marketing screenshots. That math doesn’t work at 200 orders.

Wiser, meanwhile, gives you the four upsell touchpoints that matter (product page, cart, checkout, post-purchase) plus frequently-bought-together bundles, on a plan that costs $9 or $19 a month for the kind of small store this ranking is for. It’s not the fanciest tool in the field. It’s the honest one for the buyer we’re writing to.

LimeSpot is the interesting middle. Turbo at $9.99/month is cheaper than Wiser’s higher tiers at entry, and the feature coverage is comparable, but audience segmentation, A/B/n testing, and email and SMS personalization are locked to the Max plan, which starts at $50/month and scales with store revenue. If you’re going to grow into a real personalization program, that ladder gets expensive faster than Wiser’s. If you just want recommendation blocks and post-purchase offers and you’re not on Shopify Plus, Turbo is a legitimate call.

Glood is fine, and the support team is well-regarded, but the widget-display overage is a red flag on a small store’s bill in a way most reviews gloss over. And Nosto is Nosto: a real platform, priced for buyers who aren’t you. If you’re doing under 500 orders a month and someone is trying to sell you a $2,000/month personalization contract, walk away.

One more thing worth naming. An AI recommendation app isn’t the only way to squeeze more revenue out of the traffic you already have. A well-tuned on-site chatbot can catch questions that would otherwise bounce (we cover that field in The Best AI Chatbot Builders for Your Website, Scored), and if your top-of-funnel is thin in the first place, a personalization app can’t fix it. That’s a content and SEO problem, and it’s the job The Best AI Blog Writing Tools for SEO, Scored is written for. Pick the tool that matches the bottleneck you actually have. Don’t buy a Ferrari cart drawer for a store that isn’t getting the visits.

FAQ

What's the best AI product recommendation app for a small Shopify store?

Wiser AI, by a comfortable margin. It's free up to 50 monthly orders, $9/month up to 100 orders, and $19/month for 101-300 orders, and it doesn't gate cart or post-purchase upsells behind a higher tier. Rebuy is the better call once you're a real DTC brand with the volume to justify Platform One, and LimeSpot Turbo at $9.99/month is a fine budget alternative if you don't need audience segmentation.

Do I even need AI recommendations if I'm doing under 500 orders a month?

Honestly, the lift is smaller than the marketing suggests. Below roughly 500 monthly orders, an AI recommender doesn't have enough behavioral data to blow past a well-configured manual widget, and independent Wiser alternatives cite only a 5-10% revenue difference at that scale. Pick on price, free-tier generosity, and whether cart and post-purchase upsells are included, not on 'AI' as a category.

Is Rebuy worth $534/month?

Only if you'll use it. Platform One bundles every Rebuy package with premium support and a dedicated CSM, and Rebuy publishes a positive-ROI guarantee tied to Rebuy-generated revenue. If Smart Cart, bundles, checkout upsells, and A/B testing are all actively running on your store, the math works. If you're really only using Smart Cart at 200 orders a month, you're overpaying. Start with one $25 package and expand.

Why did you rank Nosto last if it's an established brand?

Because the ranking is for a small Shopify store, and Nosto is enterprise-priced. There's no public rate card, every quote goes through sales, and implementation and services are typically billed separately. It's a legitimate platform for a mid-market or enterprise brand with a CRO team. It's the wrong answer for a store doing 200 orders a month.

What about Shopify's built-in Search & Discovery app?

It's free. If you're pre-revenue or genuinely just want a basic 'you may also like' block, install it before you pay for anything else. The paid apps above earn their fee when you want cart drawer upsells, post-purchase offers, bundles, and A/B testing on top.
